TCM ACUPUNCTURE |
How does it work?Traditional Chinese Medicine practitioners believe that the human body has more than 400 acupuncture points. These points connect with pathways called meridians. The meridians conduct energy called Qi (pronounced “chee”), from the surface of the body to the organs, glands, and tissues.
Why should I try acupuncture?Acupuncture has been shown to promote health and improve the body’s immune function. It has also helped many people who were not successfully treated through conventional western medicine. If you are interested in acupuncture, or want to explore it as a treatment
option, talk to your doctor. We will work with your doctor. With
your consent, we can share information regarding your care with
your doctor or health professionals. You may want to arrange for follow-up
visits to confirm progress with your doctor. What should I expect from my first visit?A review of your health history will be followed by a health assessment based on a model of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This may include pulse diagnosis, and looking at your tongue for color and coating. You may want to discuss which points on your body need stimulation to balance your Qi and restore your health. You will then be ready for your first treatment. I was told you hardly feel the insertion of the needle is this true? Yes, the needles used in acupuncture are very fine, and you should feel only a slight sensation. All needles used are single, prepackaged and disposable and are discarded after one use. If you still have a fear of needles, we have alternative treatment methods without the use of needles. If this may interest you, be sure to discuss this and any questions or concerns before you begin your treatment. How many treatment sessions should I expect to have?A treatment plan
will be setup with you to achieve the optimal results to bring your body back
into balance. In Traditional Chinese Medicine, one course of
treatment normally includes between 1-10 sessions. In many cases approximately
three to six treatments are needed. With chronic conditions or serious injuries
best results are achieved with ten or more treatments. Do not hesitate to ask
questions and voice any concerns as you discuss your treatment plan with the acupuncturist.
